Hello world!

Hello and welcome to SimPIC Design. Your one stop, semi-blog/semi-informational pit stop for the noobie hobbyist engineer. Yeah i said engineer, if your able to understand the basics of PIC design, you can ‘ENGINEER’ solutions (take note.., never think your anything less). A place where I can put down and share my (limited) electronic design experiences, and also a place to put the FUN back into my designs.

In this online notebook, I will be going over some of my previous designs, sharing my techniques, learning for myself and possibly designing a few new projects on the fly. In other words, it’s an online electronics hobbyists party suppling both you and I a medium to explore (huh???)

All comments and contributions are welcome and could get published, but…the be all and end all is this is my site so be ready for a possible rant or two.

555 Competition

The contest all came about when an engineer called Jeri Ellesworth decided that we had all forgotten what a wonderful chip the 555 is and wanted it back in spot light.

The rules and everything you need to know are on the site at www.555contest.com but basically there are a few categories you can enter from the complex to small is beautiful. The contest is open to anyone regardless of where you are from and can use either the standard 555 or the CMOS 7555 clone.

So dig out your old  component box and lets get retro.

DESIGNSPARK Freebies

Hello again,

Yes.., I know I’ve been a bit lazy with my posts and projects but I’m a busy man. Anyway, I just wanted to share with you a little surprise that I received through the post today.

Quite recently, RS Components opened a new community portal which is designed to be a ‘gateway to online resources and design support for engineers’.With this portal there are quite a few resources which will benefit a wide range of engineer/enthusiast who are looking for help/inspiration or just to mosey around. In my travels I came across a potential CadSoft EAGLE contender called DesignSpark PCB which claims to be ’ ..the World’s Most Powerful Free of Charge PCB Design Tool’. With a claim like this a think I’ll have to give it a review but no today. If you really want to hear about it right now the try http://gadgetsfinder.com/designspark-pcb-free-pcb-design-software/.

I just wanted to write this post to let you know about the free gift I received from DesignSpark. All I did was to join the community and added a picture to my profile and they sent me 2G USB memory stick for free. Nice!

I may seem shallow but it’s a nice incentive to show people who you are. This with all of the other resources makes it worth while to at least drop by and have a look. Oh, by the way, the memory stick works just fine.

See you soon.
